Planning a baby shower is a big responsibility. I say that because, for some people, they only get one in their whole life. That’s big! You obviously want to make it super special for them because, well, you’re a phenomenal person.

They can also be tough. I don’t know about you, but having multiple people planning and executing a baby shower can be a wee bit stressful. The extra hands are never a bad thing, but organizing something with so many hands involved can get a bit tricky.

Would we ever give up those extra hands? Of course not! But, what we can do is be super organized about it so that everything is ready to go when it needs to be ready.

Therefore, that’s why I created this free, 14-page baby shower planning guide and workbook to eliminate all your baby shower planning stress!

And without further ado, these are my 9 steps to prepping for the perfect baby shower.

How to Plan a Baby Shower in 9 Steps

Step 1: Getting all the Details

First thing’s first, you have to know what your momma-to-be is wanting. This is a party for her, after all! There are several pieces of info that you’ll need from her, all of which are included in my mommy questionnaire. You can find it in the free, 14-page guide I created to help you plan the perfect baby shower. Click here to get that freebie!

I would argue that the most important decision is the theme! Your momma-to-be has to choose a theme that she adores. If she’s needing help with that, you can check out these two posts for some inspiration!

Step 2: The Basic Info

Before you can really start prepping anything, you have to know who, what, when, where.

  • Who’s helping (see step 3).
  • Who’s invited (see step 5).
  • What’s the theme?
  • When is the shower?
  • Where is the shower?

After you question soon-to-be momma on what she’s wanting, you can get to work on the fine details and make sure that she’s super happy with those before you completely take over.

Step 3: Who’s all helping plan this baby shower?

Planning the shower of your and momma-to-be’s dreams isn’t easy. It’ll take a team! And typically with parties like this, there are an abundance of people who want to help. Everyone loves to celebrate a new baby!

Some ideas of people to ask if no one is beating your door down:

  • momma-to-be’s mom – you might need her for addresses anyways
  • any friends of the mom-to-be
  • aunts that are super crafty

Always remember to take people’s skills into mind. If you know someone who loves making the cutest cupcakes in the world, don’t ask them to make centerpieces.

Step 4: Setting a Budget

While always my least favorite part of throwing any sort of party, setting a budget is arguably the most important part of preparing for any shindig. If you’re anything like me, a party is something you feel compelled to splurge on.

And while I’m sure the person you’re throwing it for would love and appreciate anything you put together, especially if it’s super extravagant, you don’t need to spend that much money on this. Putting your heart and soul into it is enough.

That’s why you need to set a budget and stick to it.

Step 5: The Invites

Gettting addresses and sending out invitations could be one of the toughest tasked assigned to you for creating this party. While that information is not usually super easy to come by, a mom, grandma, or aunt is surely to help you with the family’s invitation list.

If you’re just inviting close friends and having a small get-together, luck you! Enjoy it.

But if you’re tracking down a bunch of addresses, consider delegating that task to someone who has all or most of the addresses already. That way it will be easier for everyone. And make sure to get a head start on this! It’ll take some time.

In my free, 14-page guide and workbook on planning a baby shower, I give a list of several things to consider while putting invitations together for a baby shower. Get that free guide here.

Step 6: Your Baby Shower Planning Guide Party Plan

This is the best part! This is where you get to sit down and plan exactly how you want the party to look and feel, and there are quite a lot of things to think about!

I always break my party plans into two sections:

  1. Food Plan
  2. Decor Plan

The food plan is going to consist of all your food for the party. This is where you decide how much food you want to feed people. Are you thinking of serving a whole meal? Finger foods? Only dessert? Think about the time of day your party is and make it appropriate for that. Nowadays, I’m pretty sure you can get away with just about anything here.

This is also the time to think about the cake/dessert you want to have. You will probably want it decorated nicely, so it’s important to get that squared away early. Can you create this yourself? Delegate it to someone willing to help? Or do you want to hire a professional? Your choice!

The decor plan is full of all the really fun stuff. Let your imagination run a bit wild here, and we’ll tame it back down in step 8 and 9. Get to pinning sister, and have the most fun with this part. And don’t forget to include some games and cute displays to look at in this section!

Step 7: Add Your Extras

Think about some stuff you would love to have at the party that isn’t totally necessary but might add that cherry on top of a perfect day. Ifyou’re short on ideas, I have a whole page full in my free, 14-page guide workbook for planning the perfect baby shower.

Step 8: Shop ’til you Drop!

You have to make sure you have all the necessary items to craft up your perfect party. Time to go shoppin’!

Step 9: Establish a Timeline for the Baby Shower

After you have all of the supplies to make your dream party, then set a timeline for yourself to accomplish everything you need to accomplish before showtime.

This time is also a really great opportunity to get a little organized! Reach back out to everyone helping you with certain tasks and touch base with them. If you’re working with any vendors, such as a local bakery or venue rental, get all the details you can from them and organize it.

Put all of these deadlines and collaborations into your calendar so that you don’t miss them. Then, you’re party should be ready to go! All that’s left to do is create.
