It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It is….. a balloon garland you can see from miles away on the front porch of a busy road!
I recently had the pleasure of throwing a superhero themed murder mystery party and it was oh-so much fun! Decorating a murder mystery party always comes with its own challenges ( you want it to look like a murder scene, not a super hip hoppin party ) , but this one went really well and the decorations were killer. I’m so proud of them!
Here you can find a list of my superhero party decorations and food ideas.
I didn’t add too many decorations, but I definitely wanted it to feel superhero-y? Is that a word? Not sure, moving on…
Superhero Party Decorations
The balloon garland I made was my largest one to-date. It was also the easiest one I’ve ever made. I think I’m really starting to get the hang of these and they are looking super cute nowadays!
My Pro Tips for building balloon garlands:
- There are several methods of building balloon garlands. The best way, I believe, is to build clusters of 3 balloons by tying their knots together. Then glue these clusters together with a low heat glue gun, like this one I bought from Amazon. It works perfectly, was super cheap, and I love it.
- The best way to up your balloon garland game is by adding in balloons of different sizes. I love adding a 36 inch balloon or two in there for variety, and you can tie your regular sized balloons off before they’re full to get smaller balloons. These are the 36 inch balloons I use. They come in about every color and they are really great.
I set up a photo backdrop (I bought this one and use it all the time. Definitely worth the investment for me.) with cardboard boxes folded and sitting on the backdrop. The goal was for it to appear like a cityscape by covering the boxes in dark blue wrapping paper and yellow post-its for windows. The twinkle lights behind the backdrop are supposed to be stars.
It was so much fun to have a place where people could stage pictures, and it’s one of my favorite things to add to parties I decorate. It invites people to take pictures and remember for years to come the awesome time they had at your party!
For snacks I did yellow and red swirl buttercream cupcakes. I have been leveling up my cake decorating abilities lately and these cupcakes were the cutest I thought. All you have to do is make two different colors of buttercream and layer them into the piping bag one after the other. They will mix in the bag and produce a swirly, experimental product.
Since this was a murder mystery party, it was essential to have alcoholic beverages. And because this was a superhero party, it only seemed right to have themed cocktails like this.
Here are the recipes I used:
This popcorn goes great with the superhero cupcakes I made. I’m so glad I decided to add it!
